Investigations are typically always held overnight, why?
The overnight hours are more promising for activity because they have been proven to be so, and also many cultural and religious beliefs state the overnight hours to be connected between the two worlds, and it also helps aid in the lights-out theory
What is the reason for the "lights out" theory?
The dark helps heighten other senses, makes it easier to see and capture images and apparitions on film, and it highly reduces the natural EMF level within the house and helps limit natural interference by cutting as many power sources as possible
Some paranormal investigators prefer "blind investigations", what is this and why?
Blind investigation is when a team goes into a location, wanting no prior knowledge or information regarding the location, history or other information so that their minds won’t play trick on them or be overly-eager to determine a 'haunting' or piece of evidence because they were previously told what to expect
You should never wear any perfume, cologne, and use unscented deodorants. Why?
There are such things as phantom scents which may be a sign of a presence of activity or possible communication, and any outside human interference of scents or smells can taint any such evidence or experiences.
What is the goal of paranormal research and investigation teams?
To give legitimate and sincere help, information and answers to those in need, and to help build a legitimate and accepted reputation to the science and further the understanding, growth and support of the community
The scientific method is the most important method of paranormal investigation, even though others may be used. Why?
Even though other methods may be used side-by-side with the scientific approach, other things such as spiritual or metaphysical practices are not commonly agreed upon and legitimized or recognized as acceptable and may be controversial. the Scientific approach helps give internationally recognized and acceptable means of understanding the paranormal from a legitimate stand point, helping to validate evidence and further the growth and understanding of the community and field.
A general rule of paranormal investigation is never to go anywhere alone, why?
You never know what might happen, you are going into a strange home or business. Also it would be helpful to have another investigator there, to validate any evidence or experiences.
Why is thermal imaging significant?
It is not a necessity, but it lends a great hand in watching for unexplainable cold spots, unseen figures or beings by the naked eye or other phenomena that is disembodied or explainable, and also allows you to keep watch on other natural elements and interference to help gain a logical explanation for certain occurrences that you may not have been able to see or determine otherwise
Dowsing rods have been a subject of a lot of debate and controversy in the paranormal community. Why?
There is no guarantee that what they are detecting is anything paranormal because they basically work as a EMF detector, though a lot of other things such as water, power surges, direction point, the lunar phase and weather can also play an effect on dowsing rods.
Orbs are generally tossed out the window as evidence. Why?
Orbs can be anything from dusts, to bugs, lenses flares or even watermarks or rain drops. And even if they were none of the above, orbs are naturally occurring and understood phenomenon that is a collection of energy that can be caused by anything from a small power surge, a microwave or several electronics running at once or a leaky switch board or wiring in a house - orbs can just be ANYTHING, it is way too shaky a subject to consider it as evidence of the paranormal.
